The Playground Of Des Moines

wedding video des moines

The modern city of Des Moines in Iowa is a wonderful playground for your wedding guests traveling from out of town. Before and after your wedding day, they will be exploring this vibrant metropolis overloaded with interesting sights and attractions.

As a professional wedding videographer covering the Des Moines and the surrounding area, I'm always happy to share my knowledge and experience with couples getting married there. So here is an article on some of my favorite hangouts and places to visit in Des Moines, which you are welcome to share with your guests.

If you get married on the weekend, your loved ones will want to hit the Downtown Farmers' Market every Saturday starting at 7 am. It's a foodie heaven and also great for handmade art, fashion, beauty products and more. For more shopping, you have the Jordan Creek Town Center and the cool Historic East Village.

If you have invited families with little ones to your big day, they will appreciate the array of attractions for kids in the city. Adventureland Park, the Blank Park Zoo and the Science Center of Iowa offer hours of entertainment. There are also many walking and biking trails great for the whole family.

Come nighttime, and if everyone wants to meet up for pre-wedding drinks, you are spoiled for choice. The British pub, The Royal Mile, seems like an ideal meeting spot and from there, you have many more pubs, restaurants and bars in that 4th Street area. Head to Court Avenue if you want to paint the town red (just not the night before the wedding, obviously). Throughout the city, there are many breweries, distilleries, clubs, and shows. If you have your bachelor and bachelorette parties in Des Moines, it is easy for the girls to go one way and the boy to go another.

There are many great places to stay in Des Moines. You really can't go wrong with any of the accommodation options on this list. These are all central or downtown locations, but there are many more on the outskirts of the city.

  • Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Des Moines West

  • Des Lux Hotel

  • Comfort Inn and Suites Event Center

  • Hotel Fort Des Moines, Curio Collection by Hilton

  • Staybridge Suites Des Moines Downtown

Des Moines is also a popular venue for festivals, events and shows. Before you finalize your wedding date, check the local event calendar to see what is falling on the same weekend. You may want to time your wedding around an annual event to either enjoy it or escape possible crowds. It's a wedding planning tip that can apply to any place.

One of the fastest-growing cities in the Midwest, you can bet there will be even more exciting things to discover by the time your wedding rolls around. If I hear of anything epic, I'll update this article. In the meantime, drop me a line so we can talk about your wedding videography coverage. It would be an honor to be your wedding videographer and document your best day ever.
